ABOUT
I purchased my first "real" camera at a NATO base in Italy while in the US Navy. It was a PETRI FTII with a 50mm lens. This basic camera ignited my desire to photograph my ship's travels and my time in the Navy. Since then I have had 4 darkrooms, including my apartment bathroom, and have exposed and printed images with 35mm, 6x6, 6x9, 4x5 and 8x10.
Since that first camera I've continuoously photographed, and when digital came out I embraced it entirely since it seemed to fit my lifestyle better than darkroom work did. For me, the making of analog film images was always more fun than developing them! I still print my own work today, though it is inkjet and not silver. And even though I no longer use large format I generally still use a tripod in order to slow my vision and decisions down. I am not a 'spray and pray' photographer. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not my style.

My full time job in telecommunications enabled me to have a part time portrait and location shoot business. When my job relocated us from New Jersey to Kansas my world was expanded and enhanced as I visited rural Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Colorado, Texas and Nebraska. Coming from a very densely populated Central New Jersey I discovered a love for the open Midwest landscape and people. This love affair continues to this day.

I also collect photographs and photography books because I want to be able to hang and see art every day (In addition to framing and hanging my own). My influences over the course of my photographic life have been masters like Paul Caponigro, Ansel Adams, George Tice, Huntington Witherill, Bruce Barnbaum, Christopher Burkett, Clyde Butcher, Cole Thompson and a few more. My humble collection includes images from all of these amazing artists.

Black & White has been my choice the majority of the time and I've stuck to it for the most part but lately color images have been finding a bigger place in my heart. Sometimes, images demand to be exclusively black & white or color. But then there are times when the image works equally well in both of them.

We live in Leawood, KS with our English Lab Polly and enjoy BBQ, reading, traveling (mostly to rural places) and church as well as our three kids and four grandchildren. My hope for this website is to present my work from a life of photography as well as continuing new work. I look forward to developing and rotating portfolios for viewers in order to keep myself and the website experience fresh.

Thank you so much for stopping by.
